The Paperless Office

To reduce the use of resources in view of environmental and costs concerns,  JM Financial Planning became a paperless office in 2007.

It was a massive undertaking to scan all of our clients’ files and store the documents electronically in a database, but the results were well worth the effort.  Not only is our clients’ information more secure with password protected systems and backups stored off-site, it is protected from mishaps such as fire.

As far as we can, we try to conduct business on-line instead of using paper forms.  In an industry that relies heavily on vast quantities of paper for brochures and forms, we actively encourage companies we deal with to stop sending us unnecessary promotional materials, and our clients to accept information electronically (either by email or links).

We chose the location of our new office based not only on its wonderful views afforded by the floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides; the abundance of natural light enables us keep the lights off most days.

It took the staff a while to adjust to the daily routines involved in reducing consumption on all levels, but once we got used to it, it really is not much effort.   Far from being greenie zealots,  we see this as our small contribution to our environment and responsible sustainable living to ensure a better future for the next generation.

A secure future involves not only sound financial planning; it includes doing our best to maintain an environment in which we would wish to live.
